The ultimate tug toy + reward

Estimated delivery:Jan 26 – Feb 13

This tug is made with anorganic, single-ingredient cowhide flat and a sturdy rope handle. The hides are sourced and made in the USA by a Latina women–owned small business that produces in small batches (not sold on Amazon). Once they arrive, I cut them, punch the hole, and add the rope myself. 🙂 In compact, easy to pack sizes.

Options:

Comes in two variants: approx. 4" × 4" and *approx. 6" × 6".
These products are 100% natural, so color, size, weight, thickness, and smell may vary from piece to piece.

Why I love it (and how I use it)

I use these constantly intraining to teach dogs proper tug mechanics, especially dogs who usually bite the rope when offered a ball-on-a-rope toy. Cowhides are so enticing that most dogs naturally target the hide (instead of the rope).

It also doubles as an incredible reward. Dogs go absolutely nuts for it. If your dog has never smelled “real animal” before (especially city dogs), they might look a little confused at first—give them a minute to sniff and test it, and the obsession usually kicks in fast.

I love it for shy or insecure dogs too: it helps bring the predator out in a healthy way and builds confidence through play.

Pro tip: Soak just a corner of the hide in water for 5 minutes. It gets softer (and smellier), and it often tempts even the shyest dogs to take a confident “bite test.”

Caution

This is a tug toy, not a “leave-it-with-them” chew. If your dog is left alone with it, they’ll likely start chewing near the rope and eventually destroy the tug. Use it for interactive play and training (I especially love it outdoors), then put it away when you’re done.

If you’re looking for a chew to offer during downtime, grab the cowhide rolls instead—but even with chews, the same rule applies: always supervise.
